Focusing on the unique terrain of Eureka Springs in the Ozark Highlands, this workshop will evaluate the approach to making artworks at a myriad of possible public and private sites. An abundance of land forms and water bodies, from ridges to hollows, featuring springs, creeks, rivers and lakes will provide a stunning array of encounters with natural settings for contemplating a variety of interactive activities.

Christopher Fischer, a former landscape contractor, multi-disciplinary artist and local community volunteer will lead participants through the process of assessing locations and methods for creating personal, ephemeral works and proposing partnership-based, long term projects. The workshop will consider the evolving history of the Environmental Art movement while quickly developing techniques for working with materials and conditions expressing artistic and ecological relationships. Background information and research materials including maps, web links and scouting images will be provided upon request. Concluding with an exhibit of documentation and preparatory works, the workshop culminates in a visit to the various sites to view the artworks, bringing the studio, gallery and audience outdoors.
