Valerie Damon
Valerie's Fleeker Art of Costuming and Face Painting

All levels
Studio
3 Day class (9am-4pm)
Tuition: $165
Materials: $5

The Fleeker philosophy, from Valerie's book Grindle Lamfoon and the Procurnious Fleekers, stimulates creative thinking. "See what there is, let your mind grow". You will create a costume that grows in complexity and design with shapes, layers, and visual effects that adorn your body using structures, fabric, pipe cleaners, pins, paint, and accessories. Design elements of line integrity and color theory, interspersed with philosophy, will inspire your approach. On the last day of class your costume will be completed and you will be guided in face painting for photo documentation by Richard Quick and a student reception.

Local Eureka Springs artist, Valerie Damon, is an author, illustrator, publisher, sculptor, and creative philosophical thinker. She co-founded Star Publications in 1976 with her husband, Dave, to create a series of high quality children's books and teaching programs. The L.A. Times described her first book, "Grindle Lamfoon and the Procurnious Fleekers" as full of love, wisdom, magic, and high standards. The second edition sold out to Discovery Toys. Valerie transfers her creative side in various mediums, including costume design. She won first place in the People's Choice Award for Best Hat at ESSA's 2007 Mad Hatter's Ball. Her books, teapots, and sculptures can be found in the galleries of Eureka Springs.
