Session Two/June 11-15

Keith Newton
Woodturning/Furniture Making

Intermediate to Advanced
Studio
5 day Class (9am-4pm)
Tuition: $265 (includes lab fee)
Materials Fees: $50

This class will start with green wood, some parts prepared in advance, and demonstrate the merging of woodturning skills into furniture making skills...not spindles, but turning parts that become highly developed shapes used for constructing boxes, cabinets and trunks.  Joinery of parts and hinging double arm pivoting, "the impossible hinge", will be emphasized.  (See picture of hinge.)  Students will work together on a couple major projects and the focus of the class will be on woodturning processes.

Keith Newton has been a professional woodworker for over 30 years.  He has owned his own shop since 1970 and has a robust clientele.  Keith is an active member of the American Crafts Council and the Furniture Society.  He has won numerous awards, including first place in the Arts Craft Design Fair (Robinson Auditorium, Little Rock, Arkansas) three years in a row.  In 2004, June - August, he held a one-man show displaying 87 pieces of his work at the Cox Creative Center, Little Rock, Arkansas.
