Woodturning

This class will emphasize deepening the student's understanding of the turning process, at whatever level she or he is presently working. If one comprehends not only how something works, but why, then that person will be better able to solve the problems which will inevitably arise as they continue working after the class ends. Also important, and equally emphasized, will be understanding and practicing sharpening lathe tools. Both spindle turning and faceplate work will be covered. Many topics will be addressed as time permits: selecting and preparing wood for turning, methods of mounting work on the lathe, ideas and design, etc. Students are encouraged to bring not only appropriate tools and wood to work with, but any completed work they would like to share or discuss, and any projects they might be having difficulties with.

Tuition: $250, Materials Fee: $15, Lab Fee; $15
