Rokotsuzome (Japanese Resist Dyeing)

Learn the ancient art of Japanese wax resist dyeing on silk. This is the technique developed by the Japanese over 2400 years ago before its doors were closed to the outside world in the 9th Century. After being a "lost" art for centuries, scholars and artist studied the ancient pieces and rediscovered the technique. Suzanne was privileged to study under Betsy Sterling Benjamin, American artist who apprenticed in Kyoto, Japan for 20 years. Learn the 10 basic techniques of Rokotsuzome (sometimes called Rozome) to create fantastic pieces of silk and works of art.

Tuition: $250, Materials Fee: $15, Lab Fee; $15
