Session Two/June 9-13Judy-Lee Carpenter Beginning to Intermediate This class will teach design, metal piercing, soldering, and bezel - stone setting. All materials will be provided. Judy-Lee Carpenter is a full-time, professional artist and craftsperson, specializing in metalsmithing. The sculptured shapes of her designs, highlighted with texture and stones, have a distinctive look. This style is recognized by its distinctive asymmetrical design and attention to detailing, often mixing found objects with traditional gemstones - enhancing jewelry executed in gold and silver. Her body of work extends from jewelry to dinnerware and serving pieces to sculptural works, both free-standing and wall-mounted. Judy-Lee graduated with honors in Commercial Art from Southwest Texas State University. She has lived in West Africa collecting African art and observing native culture and designs. She also spent time in Italy and the Middle East and later studied advanced metalsmithing at the Museum of Fine Arts (Houston, Texas), the Argent School of Design (Dallas, Texas) and the University of Houston. |
